I was Interviewed for a Date Rape Article on Giddy

I was interviewed for a article on date rape.

I was honored to be quoted recently in an article on date rape for Giddy, the world’s largest sexual health platform. The article, entitled “The Controversial and Confusing Crime of Date Rape,” focusses on an all too common experience for women. The article offers perspectives from date rape survivors and hope for healing by working through shame with self-compassion.

As a Somatic Therapist who specializes in working with survivors of sexual abuse and sexual assault, including date rape, I am constantly reminded of how strong of a force shame can be in repressing ones ability to advocate for themselves. This is especially true if a date rape survivor knowingly ingested an intoxicating substance such as alcohol or drugs. This can add to the feeling of shame, making them feel that maybe it was somehow their fault and thus suppressing their willingness to pursue justice or even their own healing.

The article is free to view though registration may be required. Thanks to author María Cristina Lalonde for reaching out and allowing me to include my perspective!
